March 25-29, 2019

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a fun, relaxing spring break. I got to spend time with friends and family, and I got to catch up on laundry and chores. Not very exciting, but it felt good to be productive!

This week’s homework will be reading on RAZ kids and working in Dreambox Math. Please have your kiddo do the comprehension quiz after reading the books! Homework bags will begin going home again next Monday.

We will have our spring field trip to the Thinkery on May 9, 2019.  We will need 4 parent chaperones in order to comply with the Thinkery’s adult to student ratio. There are still 2 spots available!  Please email me if you are able and willing to attend.  I will send out information to the chaperones once all spots are filled.

This week in Reading
We will review what we learned about Poetry. We will also be reading different books by Liz Scanlon, the author coming to our school on Wednesday, March 27.

This week in Writing Workshop
We will be writing small moment stories about our spring break adventures. We will be reviewing the writing process, and working on organizing our stories with a beginning, middle and end.

This week in Math workshop
We will finish up our addition and subtraction unit.  We will continue to think about how addition and subtraction are related.  We are learning about fact families, missing addends, and how we can think about addition to solve a subtraction problem and vice versa. This week, we will be applying this knowledge to problem solving situations and assessing for mastery.

This week in Science
We will review and finish up learning about Mammals.  After this, we will learn about the characteristics of a bird, their body parts, life cycle and how they depend on their environment around them to survive.

This week in Social Studies
We will be talking about goods and services. We will discuss the difference between a good and a service, and we will think about different jobs in our community that produce goods and/or provide services, and begin thinking about earning and saving money.

Our Life Skill of the week is Patience!
That’s all for now! Have a great week!
