This week in Reading Workshop...
We will continue setting up Reading Workshop in the classroom.  As a class, we will discuss the expectations of Read to Self (independent reading), and we will begin building our stamina. We will also learn how to get the teacher’s attention if she is in a reading conference with a student or a small group.

This week in Writing Workshop...
We will continue to discuss the expectations for Writing Workshop.  We will begin learning how we can be independent writers during our writing workshop time. We will begin writing about personal experiences.

This week in Math...
We will learn about representing numbers in different ways.  We will think about how we can look at an arrangement of objects and find patterns to help us know what the number is without counting.  This is going to get our brains ready to look for patterns in numbers later on in the year.

This week in Science...
We will begin thinking about what it means to be a scientist.  We will discuss different types of scientists and think about different things a scientist might do.  We will also think about different tools a scientist might use.

We have had a great start!  Everyone is showing up with smiles on their faces and they are ready to learn.  I am very optimistic that this will be a fabulous year for everyone!

Thank you for remembering to send the yellow daily folder back with your child every day.  There is good information in the folder and you can also learn about your child’s day from the behavior calendar.

This week in Reading Workshop...
We will be focusing on setting up Reading Workshop in the classroom.  As a class, we will discuss the expectations of Reading Workshop and why it is important that the expectations are followed. We will also learn how to properly use the classroom library and the different ways to read a book.

This week in Writing Workshop...
We will discuss the expectations for Writing Workshop.  We will also talk about how authors come up with ideas to write about.  The students will fill out a heart map to help them if they get stuck and can’t think of a topic.  We will begin writing about personal experiences.

This week in Math...
We will learn about bar graphs and collecting data.  We will record the data we collect on a graph and answer questions about it.

This week in Science...
We will begin thinking about what it means to be a scientist.  We will discuss different types of scientists and think about different things a scientist might do.  We will also discuss the expectations for science in the classroom.
