January 28-February 1, 2019

Parents,
Mr. Terrell and I need your help.  We have been having to sign many, many folders lately due to disruptive behaviors throughout the day.  We are having to give a lot of reminders about following directions, talking at inappropriate times, and having a calm body in the classroom.  It is very hard for us to do our job when the classroom community is disrupted so many times throughout the day. Please speak with your child at home about the importance of being a respectful learner in the classroom community, listening to and following teacher instructions, and using a calm body in the classroom. Thank you so much for your support!

This week
Monday (1/28):  Homework Bags come home
Daily folder comes home.  Return daily!
Tuesday (1/29):  Tuesday folders come home
Wednesday (1/30):
Thursday (1/31):

We will begin learning about research.  What does research mean?  We will learn that we can use what we have learned about nonfiction books to find information about a specific topic.  As a class, we chose to research volcanoes!

This week in Writing Workshop
We will begin learning how to write information we collect from nonfiction books on sticky notes.  We will use the sticky notes to publish the information we collect.  We will also choose topics we already know about and write facts about that topic.

This week in Math workshop
We will dive back into place value.  A few months ago, we learned about numbers up to 20.  For the next few weeks, we will be learning about and exploring numbers up to 99. We will be using base 10 blocks to build the numbers, compare and order numbers, and write numbers in expanded form.

This week in Science
We will be learning about the seasons.  We will discuss characteristics of each season and how they change.

This week in Social Studies
We will be learning about the characteristics of the world around us. We will learn about the different landforms and bodies of water.

January 14-18, 2019

We are getting back into the swing of things!  We have discussed how we learned to be 1st Graders last semester, but now, this semester, we are practicing to be 2nd Graders.  Please remind your child at home of the importance of attentive listening during instruction times, staying on task during work times, and following expectations.  There has been a lot of off task behaviors during instruction and work times.  As always, thank you for your support from home in this matter.

Friday will be the start of our spring Caraway Academies!  This is an enrichment program at Caraway. It is always an exciting time for the kiddos!  I will let you know what your kiddo’s academy is by Thursday.

Fairy Tale Parade-
Thank you so much for your participation in our Fairy Tale Parade.  The costumes were awesome, and the kiddos were so excited to all of the smiling faces.
