November 6-10, 2017

It is supposed to be much cooler on Wednesday this week.  Please make sure your child comes to school with a jacket.  We will go outside on most days, even in cold weather.  Also, as allergy season is upon us, please note that I cannot leave a child indoors during recess time.  Even to sit in the office, a note from a doctor restricting outside recess has to be presented to Nurse Judy.  Thanks!

This week in Reading and Writing Workshop...
We will continue our learning about nonfiction text.  We know Readers read to learn! Writers can also write to teach readers something they know a lot about!  We will continue to examine the features of nonfiction and apply what we have learned about these text features when reading.  We will read nonfiction books about the first Thanksgiving this week, and we will write facts we have learn as we read.
This week in Math workshop...
This week we will continue learning about Subtraction and Doubles.  We will explore what subtraction means by acting out subtraction stories and using manipulatives.  Also in this unit, the students will begin thinking about how addition and subtraction are connected.  We will apply what we have learned about subtraction in problem solving situations.
This week in Science...
We will continue exploring patterns of movement!  The students always love this unit!  We will learn all about the many different ways objects can move.  We will demonstrate, observe and record as we learn.
This week in Social Studies...
We will learn about culture.  We will discuss the many diverse cultures that are represented in our classroom.  We will also discuss family traditions and customs from these different cultures.
Our Life Skill of the week is Courage! Courage is the ability to be brave and rise above things that might frighten us.  We will discuss different ways we have shown courage in the past and also how we can be courageous now.
That's all for now! Have a great week!
