April 1-5, 2019

I wanted to send out a huge thank you for all of the wonderful Teacher Appreciation gifts I received throughout the week! I am so grateful to have your support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

It was so fun to see so many of my students at Family Fit & Fun night. There was so much to do! Maggie had a blast in the ambulance!

We will have our spring field trip to the Thinkery on May 9, 2019.  We will need 4 parent chaperones in order to comply with the Thinkery’s adult to student ratio. There is still 1 spot available!  Please email me if you are able and willing to attend.  I will send out information to the chaperones once all spots are filled.

     Tuesday folders come home
Wednesday (4/3):
Thursday (4/4): Guidance Lesson with Ms. Amiri
Friday (4/5):

This week in Reading & Writing Workshop
We will begin digging deeper into research. In this unit, the students will use what we learned about research to complete a self-chosen research project. The students will choose a topic, ask questions, develop a research plan, and read different nonfiction texts to find the answers to their questions. In 1st Grade, this is not expected to be done independently, but with adult assistance. We will also be reading and learning about the chicks and chickens!

This week in Math Workshop
We will be revisiting equality & inequality before learning to use symbols (>,<,=) to compare and contrast numbers to 99. We will also continue using strategies in problem solving. We will focus on subtraction problems that ask the questions “how much greater” and “how much less”.

This week in Science
We will continue learning about the characteristics of a bird, their body parts, life cycle and how they depend on their environment around them to survive.

This week in Social Studies
We will think about different jobs in our community that produce goods and/or provide services, and begin thinking about earning and saving money.

Our Life Skill of the week is Sense of Humor!
That’s all for now! Have a great week!
